What started all of this?
Shine Monkey was born out of a love for cars. My father indulged me in car culture from a very young age. Many of my summer weekends were filled with car shows, where I learned to appreciate the care others took to keep their rides in pristine condition. Every spring and fall my father would pull all of our vehicles out onto the driveway, and give them a detail from top to bottom. He did this all by himself. I once asked him why he enjoyed "wasting" a whole day on cleaning the car. He told me he found satisfaction in seeing how good he could make the cars look.
As I got older, I began helping him every once in a while. Initially I only did the interior of the vehicles. However, eventually he took me through the laborious process of polishing the exterior. As we got more efficient, we thought maybe we could sell our work as a service to people. My dad began mentioning my "business" to some of his own clients and I got my first taste of business operations. I planned out how much we would need to charge in order to make a decent hourly wage, and from there we went.
Where did the name "Shine Monkey" come from?
Growing up, my parents referred to me as "Monkey Boy". An affectionate yet painfully accurate nickname. I always loved climbing on things and monkeying around; playgrounds were my bread and butter.
When we started getting serous with our car cleaning business, My Dad and I tossed around a few names. We made a list of them and Shine Monkey stood out. It was creative and sentimental, yet rolled easily off the tongue.
When did Shine Monkey come to fruition?
We detailed our first vehicle in the summer of 2020. After a very successful pilot, I reached out to more potential customers via email and scheduled some more detailings. Our business has henceforth grown merely by word of mouth. The aim of this website is to expand our potential customer base.
What is our philosophy?
Here at Shine Monkey we strive to provide great service at a reasonable price. We want to make our customers feel proud of their vehicles. To us, a car is more than just a mode of transportation. It's design, technology, and ergonomics, compiled into a vessel on which we depend every day. With vehicles being such an integral part of our modern lives, why not take care of them.
